Bridges started his career as the Director of Research at the Illinois State Historical Library. A prolific writer on Illinois History and Abraham Lincoln, Bridges became an active member of the Abraham Lincoln Association and published numerous articles for the organization. Following his brief positions as Director of the State Historical Library and Director of the Lincoln Legal Papers, Dr. Bridges assumed the executive directorship at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museum from 1988-2003. Bridges returned to Illinois upon retiring and became President of the Abraham Lincoln Association from 2004-2006. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Images in this collection include photographs of Bridges with Illinois Governor Thompson, historian Tom Schwartz, and Lincoln Scholar Ralph Newman, at an awards ceremony, and a photograph of Bridges&amp;rsquo; wife.</text>
