I had no desire to interfere in the matter further than to see justice done. If true, as the petition showed a majority were in favor of Sumner, I thought he ought to have it. But it seems, if it was true that the company at a formal election changed their minds. I do not wish it to be understood that I desire the appointment of Sumner against the voice of a majority of the Company. </p><p>Some of our Battalion have been in service since the latter part of Sept. and we are expecting to be ordered into the field. Many of the men are married and poor, and their wives and children need their wages. And they particularly desire to send the money home before they go. Our pay Rolls are in the hands of Maj.
