To His Excelency

Richard Yates

Governor of the State of Illinois

Sir

Deeply sensible of my duty to the State, and of the honour confered upon me by yourself, I desire to state to you that, while I am an applicant for no position I will within thirty days arrange my bussiness. so that if in your judgement my services shall be needed, you can command them, without delay.

I have spent twenty years in the Military service of this and my native State (Connecticut) I shall continue my Military studies, and the drill & discipline of my Company (Chicago City Guard)

Holding myself in readiness, but soliciting nothing
