Richard Yates,
Dear Sir
A friend of mine who is very capable and has spent most of his life as a commander of a Miss boat, has applied to me to aid him in getting for him the Captaincy of a Steamer to descend that River with Gen'l Fremont,
Can you give any information as to how I can effect this. When is Gen'l Fremont expected expected at Springfield?
