Dear sir. I, this day, send to the Gov: of Illinois, some papers for Sec: of Tres: S.P. Chase: the Sec: of War; & our senators & representatives at Washington I request him to give me the command of a Regiment.

I would have tried to enter the service, [illegible] but for pressing engagements which are now, mostly settled. I received a military education at West Point, I held a commission in the Artillery for eight years.

I shall be glad if you will tell the Governor, what you think of my qualifications.
