Madison Gen Hosp May 31st 1864 State of Indianna To the Right Honorable Gov over Yates of Ill. We the undersigned sick and wounded Soldiers from the State of Illinois do petition your Honor for a transfer from this Hospital to our own state many of us have been here a long time and we feel that if we cannot get to our homes It would be a great relief to be alowed to go once more within the borders of a land that contains all that our Hearts Hold dear on earth and for your Speedy action in our behalf we Sincerely Pray. A. S. Hooftel Madison Ind. May 18th 1864 Gov. Yates Dear Sir I now deemed it necessary to send you A few lines for some information in Regard to being transferred to any own state. I have tried several ways but now will Answer the purpose above named. This is several Ills Boys here wants to be transfered to the same. I belong to Co-B 27th Regt Ills Inft Volls. I recd a very severe wound at the Battle of Mission Ridge breaking my right leg. I have been in the Hospt ever since.
