Sir

The bearer Wm Alderdice a loyal Citizen of this City had a son in the South at the breaking out of this rebellion who was taken at Missionary Ridge is now at Rock Island and very anxious to take the oath, be permitted to reside at his Fathers and become once more a loyal Citizen. I think that no harm but good would result from granting him the priveledge, any assistance you can render Mr Alderdice will be worthily bestowed
