July the eighth eighteen sixty four Mr Yates dear friend I take the opportunity of writing you a few lines this morning I am a poor widow and I have a large family and none of them able to help me make a living I have but one son left at home and he is a cripple I had another son he went to the army he left home the fifteenth of December and his Father took sick the sixteenth of December and died the twenty ninth of February and I cannot make a living with out my son and I want you to write to me and let me know whether


I can have him brought home from the army or not he is at pine Blull Arcansas he belongs to the sixty second Regt Ills Vol he was nineteen years old the twentyeth day of may his name is Gilkey W Campbell write if you please and obliege me
