Littl Rock, Ark,

November 11th/64

Governor,

Sir,

Your will pardon me for thus addressing you. I do so only to ask you to be kind enough to grant me a furlow to Springfield a few days that I may make Some arangements for my Children to be cared for. Thier Mother being dead before I left I left them in the hands of Strangers. during the last Summer one of them has died and the other two which are Small are in very poor health. You know that owing to the late order from the war department there are no means here by which I can obtain a leave of absence even for twenty four hours. Will you be so kind as to grant me this favor.

I am with much respect your obedient Servant

Franz Thomas

Private Battery A 3rd Reg. Ills. Artilery.
