                   His Excellency
                      Richard Yates_ Gov-

My dear Gov,

Yours of the 12th inst has just been received. I Know of no place where a vacancy for Post Chaplain exists. Not being able for duty at the front, and yet feeling as though I could be doing something, would you be so Kind as to obtain a detail for me from the proper authorities, to labor in behalf of the sanitary interest of the Army. My Regiment is with Gen Sherman and men Unable for duty in the field it would be impossible for me to reach them. I have sent a communication to Col Ward concerning the field in which I propose to labor, if arrangements therefor can be made. If a detail can be obtained I would like it to date back to Oct 20th 1864.
                                    With Great respect, I am
                                        Your Obt Servt,
                                           E Ransom Jr
