Transcription

At a quarterly meeting of the council of the city of Chester, held the third day of May, 1865, it was moved by the right worshipful the mayor, Robert Frost, esquire, seconded by Mr. Councillor Henry Ford, and

Resolved unanimously, That this council desires, before proceeding to the business of the day, to express its horror and indignation at the assassination of President Lincoln, and at the atrocious attempt made on the life of the Hon. William H. Seward, and to convey to Mrs. Lincoln and the people of the United States its deep sympathy and condolence with them in their bereavement.

It was moved by the right worshipful the mayor, Robert Frost, esquire, seconded by Mr. Alderman John Trevor, and

Resolved unanimously, That copies of the foregoing resolution, under the common seal of the city, be forwarded to the United States minister, in London, for transmission to his Excellency the President of the United States, Mrs. Lincoln, and the Hon. William H. Seward.

Given under the common seal of the city of Chester, this fifth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five.
