Maj Gnerl. Banks

Sir

The bearer Washington Midler being about to visit New Orleans I take the liberty of giving him this letter to you I was well acquainted with his Father many years Since who was a very active energetic businefs man very largely engaged in the Construction of Canals & Rail Roads

The bearer is a resident of this City of good reputation & has been for more than a year past in the Cavalry Service and I doubt not would be a valuable acquisition to the Army if an opportunity presented in your department of making his Services available

Very Respectfully Your

Obdt Servt
