Gov Yates

Springfield

Dear Sir your favor of 10th inst is at hand. I beg leave to ask you for what term of Service you speak of whare you say you Could Authorize me to raise a Malitia Company. The reason I Sugested Twelve months Service was I supposed it would be sufficiently long. Could they or not be musterd into the State Service for three years or during the war. I hope thare will be a special interest taken in this matter by your Excelency as no single Company or battalion Could Protect all the Teritory exposed if invaded, And we feel well satisfied thare is danger, which will be increased as soon as our troops move South

I am still Vary Resptfuly your

Vary Obedient Servt
