Gov Yates

Dear Sir-

Your note was recived this morning and its request complied with. I regret much more than you possibly Can that I did not Meet with you while in Alton, but it was entirely out of my power to meet with you at Capt Benbank, as I live a half mile from the City Hall and had ladies in company with me. I have expressed my views to-day in the Telegraph in reference to a U S Senator which

I will forward to you to-night.

The kind feelings expressed by you in your note is appreciated and you may hear from me again. The administration must do something for us or we cannot survive in our present large and respectable scale.

Yours most Respectfully
