Several men crouch under a walkway as part of a drill inside a mine rescue school. Illinois Mine Rescue began when Bill No. 42 was approved in the Illinois Senate on March 4, 1910. The law was written to establish and maintain mine fire fighting and mine rescue stations in coal fields across the state.
