Hon. R. Yates Gov. State of Ills.

I have an adopted son who is nurse in Gen. hospital No. 1 Savanna, Tenn. He wishes me to draw his pay. Is there any provision made for the friends of volunteers to draw their wages? He sais he can get an order from his paymaster and that I can give it to the paymaster at pay Department of St Louis and draw the amount that the order calls for.

My husband David H. Sawyer, Corporal in Comp C 11th Ills fell at Fort Donelson on the 15th of Feb.

I have a helpless infant to care for, and there is no one whom I can look to for support only my adopted son. His name is John Pugh. He sais in his letter of the 18th ult. that I have been a mother to him and that he will be found a dutiful son. He would send me money by mail but considering the distance I presume it would not be safe.

Yours,

Mrs. Anna E. Sawyer
