Respected Sir
I do not hesitate recommed to your kind consideration John Wertz Esqr. who is anxious to raise a Regt of Ills. Vols. He is a working man and his heart is in the Union cause in good earnestness. He resides in Pope County and I have no doubt of his ability to fill the station he asks in the service and his neighbors will volunteer under him.
