Dr Sir

My son Thomas Hinds [illegible] co. "D" Batalion 110th Illinois Volunteers has been laying very sick at Chatonooga for some several weeks

I understand that it will be necessary for me to have a pass from you in order to get to see him, believing that you are indeed the soldiers friend I take the liberty of addressing you this letter and requesting by return mail a pass to Chatanooga.
