Sir,

I would like a position in one of the Colored Regts. now being organized in Ill. I have seen service, both with white & colored troops. (A Captaincy would suit me if nothing better could be had.) If you see fit, to give me a chance. I will do my best to make the colored soldier the pride of Illinois.
