Govener of Ills.

Sir I drop you A few lines To let you know that I am A soldier in the 8th Ills regment, Vol. Inf and that I have bin in the regiment ever since it was A regiment at the expiration of the three months I went Home ten days and then Returnd to the Regiment A gain and have bin with it ever since and thrue Some sever battels


I have a Family at Decatur Ills and one of my children is badly cripeld and I want you to grant me the privelige of returning home a few days if you please for my family is in Distressing circumstances if you cant give me a furlow give me some small office in Ills so that I can support my family I have the office of fifth sergt, in Co. B, 8th Ills I can proove that I have bin a good soldier by Col Oglesby Col Post Col Rhoads Major Lieb Capt Slosser or any of the boys in the Company
