To His Excellency Gov. Yates

Dr Sir

We Republicans of Wabash County solicit as a special favor to us your constituents that you lend your influence in favor of our young friend George P. Edgar who rendered our cause efficient aid in our last Presidential election to aid him in procuring the post of second Lieutenant in the U.S.A. or in any other position for which he may apply consistent with the public good. The great energy of character and unswerving principles of Mr Edgar as well as his long connection with the far famed “Seventh Regiment” of New York eminently fit him in our judgement for the post in the army which he seeks

and we hope it may be compatible with your sense of duty to lend him your aid and thus place us under personal obligations to you.

Please address George P. Edgar care Senator Manierre 2 ½ Wall St. N.Y.

Very truly
