</p><p>I last night joined Judge Parks in a letter to you recommending Mr. House the bearer of this for the appointment of Prosecuting Attorney for this Circuit. At that time I had not the time to say what I wished. I have been acquainted with Mr. House for the past five years, and he is a young lawyer, of more than ordinary promise. He is a firm political friend of ours, and I believe his appointment, will give satisfaction to your many friends here
</p><p>He is energetic and will fill the appointment with credit to himself, and the satisfaction of all. He is recommended by nearly all of the Bar. And I feel, that you will be perfectly satisfied with him hereafter I hope to see you during the coming week.

</p><p>Dear Sir I am settled these two years on an 80 acre lot of land which is called swamp land but it is all good tillable land and I am told that such land do not go into the list of over flowed land But could be bought from the goverment If it was not too much trouble I would wish to have your advice on it I have tried to buy it from the officers of this Co But cannot or pay taxes on it
</p><p>i have 40 acres in cultivation a house & [illegible] and well and orchard set out and would like to have it for a home if I knew how to obtain it What I say can be substanciated by any or all of my neighbours
</p><p>I would mention Mr. O Seward Mr Peter Berrie & Mr Orson Young I am afraid that some one may buy it after I get it all improved any information as to how I might obtain a deed or title would much oblidge your most obdt Servt.

</p><p>There is a very poor but honest man living on my farm here by the name of John Konkle, who has three sons (his only help) in the army. He recd a letter a few days since from the oldest from Chattanooga, in which he stated that some time previous he had sent his father $20.00 by the state Agent. If there is any man acting in such capacity will you please hand him this note that the money may be ford. to him - if not already sent - at his earliest convenience, or looked after if sent and miscarried. Mr Konkle's address is as mine above - Box 73.
