I have two brothers in the Army, who have fought bravely and faithfully for more than a year and half, and at the Battle of Murfreesboro this one (of whom I speak) was wounded and taken prisoner was in the hands of the Rebels a month and then paroled and sent to Annapolis MD. He has never since his enlistment expressed any willingness to come come but his whole heart and soul have been in the work of fighting for his country. And in all his writings, he <hr /> has frequently expressed a determination to fight, if need be seven years as our Forefathers fought. But since he has been a Paroled Prisoner He has an earnest desire to come Home - for a while at least - that he may get recruited up and get the rest and strength he so much needs and also to see his Aged Father & Mother and myself his sister who am an Invalid and almost helpless and whom he has not seen for most 6 years We know not what better to do than to appeal to you, knowing that you have the power to grant him a furlough or permit to come home (as you have done so by others) untill exchanged or ordered to return again to his Reg't. I have been in this Hospital since the 24th of Dec last and owing to a defect defect in my back occasioned by an old hurt and being revived by a fall last Nov. and also by another in Jan. 63 I am at this unable to do any duty either in camp or Hospital.
