There are other Military companies being

I would respectfully refer to Gen. H. Harlow

of Springfield, with whom I have a corresponding

I would also refer you to Capt. J. H. [Baicourt?],

of the county court, all of Golconda, and other

Hoping that you will give this subject

your earnest attention and decide for

our own peace and tranquility, and for the

Since my return from Springfield I find the people urging with great vehemence that you address us on the issues of the day at this place, and I have just written to Col Turner asking that he appoint a day as soon after Oct 6th as is convenient in which both your Honor and Genl Oglesby can be present and address. I place the date after Oct 6th on a/c of our own and the State fairs.

Your presence here or your absence will make a difference in our vote of over 500 and can you do more good in one day? This will be the only Mass Meeting we shall need and will you not grant us this, which we consider a necessity? May I hope that you will confer with Genl Oglesby and Col Turner and inform me of your decision at as early a date as possible, that full preparation may be made. We are organizing for the campaign and mean to give a good report of ourselves. Awaiting your reply I have the honor of remaining Your Obt Servt
