On the principle that the continuous falling of small drops wear away a rock, I am thumping away with my small mallet of influence and driving in a wedge here and there, where I know they will tell in your behalf. I do sincerely hope that your success does in no degree depend upon the elevation of J.K. Dubois to the Gubernatorial chain. He is no friend of yours, whatever he may pretend to be. You can sail without him I am sure. But, if the “Wires” are so arranged, that to pull against him, will unfavorably affect you, I may, though I can see no virtue in him, relax my grief enough to let him work out his own salvation with fear and trembling, if he is not entirely God-forsaken! My dislike for him is not personal, he has always treated me as well as <hr /> [illegible] nature and habits would permit, but it is, because I believe him void of principle. If he could be unfriendly to Gov. Wood, for whom he made such loud professions of friendship, he is capable of betraying you or any one else to enhance his own sinister purposes or for his own personal aggrandizement.
