And the League appointed the 25th of this month for a general meeting inviting the neighbouring Leagues to meet with it for the purpose of making some efficient arrangements for defense and protection of persons and property in this part of the state ( and other parts when called for) as emergensies may require. The meeting was accordingly held representing 3 Leagues the aggregate no- of which is about 280, a proposition being made to form the different Leagues </p> <hr /> <p>into Home Guards was unanimously adopted </p><p>Morgans raid and expressions which Copperheads are heard to make nearly every day clearly prove the necesity for this Step </p><p>The League directed me to write again for information on the subject </p><p>There is no doubt but what there can be 3 or 4 companies of Home Guards organized within 2 weeks.
