Dear Sir:- Learning that you are about to commission officers for the colored troops of this State. Having served two enlistments, in the cause of my Country and being well acquainted with the drill of the soldier I think myself capable of drilling and commanding a company of such troops with credit to myself, honor to my State and service to my Country, and feeling that I would serve her in no better capacity. I make this petition to you purely from my own desires, and personally, hoping that you will find me the right man in the right place.

I remain Your
Obedient Servant
