Akers at the request of my Lt Col purchased a lot of medicines for the Regt in fact we were compelled to have the medicines and I therefore fully approved the action of my Lt Col in the matter and would have done as he did but for the fact that I was absent at the time. I am told by Mr Akers that there was an indisposition on the part of the proper officers to pay him even the money that he expended this is <hr /> a very great act of injustice to Mr Akers. At the time he bought the medicines for my Regt my Surgeon was at Chicago awaiting his regular turn to be examined and the consequence was that there was no other way by which we could procure the medicines No other person in Shawneetown would furnish them.
