reach him in four or five days. Likely we will come in to New York and reach Newport the latter part of the month.

Monday evening

Sweetheart, it was so good to hear your voice on the phone awhile ago. It seems already as if you had been away some time. I am so glad you had a pleasant trip down, and that you finally got the keys. I am wondering whether you went to the theatre or not.

This afternoon I shut up the parlor & drawing room

for good, and Lois and I had a cosy supper together in servants dining room. it is nice & warm in that little room & we shall use it right along now. Freeman called for the piano.

I saw Harrison and Davis this afternoon, and I explained about the the cases necessary to be made. The bed & mattress in one, the machine, Lois [illegible] and the servants furniture & your case. (Darn this paper it is so greasy I cant write)

all of which took me over an hour to explain, as he & Davis had to discuss the pros & cons of each case, they were too fussy! They will all be ready to ship Wed. except the furniture & as [Havin?] is so busy this week, he is going to pack & ship the chairs Mon. or Tues. of next week. There really isn't such a rush [for?] that. To-morrow I shall get out the other big trunk and start in on that. A little bit each day. I shall also see the Hines too.

I am writing this dear all huddled up in my heavy wrappes, sitting in the bathroom an oil stove at my elbow, as if it is very cold. I am nice & warm however.

Try to send Ina the flowers t-omorrow dear if you can.

Loads of love dear, I miss you so much. keep well, and don't do too much & get all tired.

from your lovely little girlie [two circles and a vertical line]
I have just discovered the grease on paper is off my own hands! which I covered with cold cream!

                <text>
I love you---oh so much!

February 14, 1863.

At a meeting of the Officers of the 82nd Regt. Ills. Vols. held this day, Lieut. Col. Edward S. Salomon was chosen chairman and Adjutant Eugene F. Weigel secretary, and the following resolutions were offered, and unanimously adoptet:

In consideration of the critical position of our country at present and of the intrigues of miserable politicians and partisans, who - while the true and loyal citizens of our state, with the sacrifice of blood and life, endeavor to destroy the enemies of our most sacred rights; - aid and abett these enemies, at home, by means of treasonable, and our state degrading resolutions, be it resolved:

1., That we, the German soldiers and citizens of the State of Illinois, who have declared themselves willing to sacrifice all for the preservation of the Union, have heard with the greatest indignation of the miserable treachery of the men, who dare to call themselves our representatives.

2., That we endorse with pleasure the emancipation proclamation of our President, and are at any moment ready to execute it with arms in hand.

3., That we regard our Governor Richard Yates, as one of the noblest, truest and most high minded patriots of the United States, and that we refute the infamous attacks and slanders, which have been made upon him by secesh-sympathizing members of the legislature of Illinois, as low and mean in the highest degree, and that we regret that we are no longer at Camp Butler, to have an opportunity of liberating the halls of our capitol, from this detestable scum.

4., That we condemn the majority-report of the house committee on federal relations most decidedly, and that we consider the authors and all those, who voted in favor of this report as rebels and traitors, who deserve to be hung by the side of Jeff. Davis and consorts.

5., That we, contrary to this report, consider the minority report of the same committee, as the noble expression of the sentiments of true patriots, and acknowledge and esteem the same as such with all our heart, and that we are convinced that the same will be endorsed by every soldier of the State of Illinois.

6., That we hope and wish, that this rebellion may soon be suppressed, but only by force of arms, and that then the traitors in the north as well as the leaders of the rebellion in the south, may not evade their just punishment.

7., That these resolutions be published in the "Illinois-Staats-Zeitung" and the "Chicago Tribune,"

and copies thereof be sent to the Governor of Illinois and to our representatives in Congress, as well as to our Colonel Frederic Hecker, who, unfortunately, was prevented by disease, from participating in this demonstration.

Camp near Stafford C. H. Va.
