&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;He has seen some 16 years of regular service and holds 3 honorable discharges and with the fidelity which he shows to him family and country, surely he should not go unrewarded.

I think our Republican friends in the legislature was a little to smart for them.  Thank Heaven that the meditated treason has been at least suspended for a season and by the time June comes I hope that the soldiers will so speak that they will not dare to carry out what they have begun

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;At the request of Mrs. Candace Young I write to ask your recommendation &amp;amp; influence if consistent with your views to a situation as Nurses in some Hospital in connection with the Army for herself and Husband. Her husband Mr. Samuel Young is now orderly sergeant in compy. D. 85th Reg. Ills Vols now stationed at Nashville Tenn.  from an acquaintance with the parties for 10 or 15 years and my knowledge of their competency as nurses I can safely recommend them to you as fully qualified for any situation in connection with Hospitals as nurses.  Young would make an excellent Steward. he is religious sober and industrious. if this meets your approval, you will please forward to me any recommendation you are willing to make.

Ills Vols now stationed at Nashville Tenn.  from an acquaintance with the parties for 10 or 15 years and my knowledge of their competency as nurses I can safely recommend them to you as fully qualified for any situation in connection with Hospitals as nurses.  Young would make an excellent Steward. he is religious sober and industrious. if this meets your approval, you will please forward to me any recommendation you are willing to make.

In the 20th regiment which was raised in his section of the State there are several vacancies. One of them I ask for him - I am very sure the Col. of the 20th (Marsh) would willingly consent to his appt for such a purpose.

&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I make free to address you a few lines and to get some information from you in regard to getting a beloved Daughter home from Texas the circumstances is this She went out there with her Husband four years ago his name is W.A. Patten and he was a Union man but I dont know but he may be in the rebel army as I have understood that they have a great many whom they have forced into there army against there will and there was a man and a prisoner at Camp Douglas by that name died last week we don't know wether it is him or not as he has moved about considerable since he went out there he first went to the north west part of the State and bought land there they had to leave there on account of the out break of the Indians about two years ago and the last letters they were in Dallias County now my request is to know of you what chance will be to get her home if she can through your Influence be brought to any point where our Union troops are so as I can reach Her as it would relive the mind of your sincere Friend to get her away from amongst rebels home to Her parents and Friends I need not mention the strong ties that binds Parents to there Children as you know how dear they are to you and every parent does if you will be kind enough to write me what can be done in this matter and I will write you and give you the decrsption of them both if needed and all the information I can
