Regt. has been received and I feel grateful the favour I received a letter from my son on yesterday in which he says that Avery the 1st Lieut has resigned and that Capt Sanders there Capt has been Court Marshalled for repeated acts of disorderly conduct & Drunkness and he feels satisfied that the company will get rid of both of them, and if so he has no desire to leave the Regt. he my son was in the Battle at Frederic Town in Missouri at Ft. Donaldson & Shiloe & I have the Testimony of the best men in the Regt. that no braver or better Solder was in these hard fought Battles. he says in his last letter if the transfer is made he wished me to write to the Governor to know if he could not be Permitted to visit his friends one week before going to the 84th he has not been home since the Regt left in May 1862 <hr /> Now if the transfer is not already orderd as matters now stand you need not give yourself any further trouble about the matter but if the Transfer is made and you have the authority to permit him to visit home for one week I will esteem it as a favour I am Requested by Thos. W. Kinsloe of Ognawka to write you in behalf of his son Thadeus A Kinsloe and A young man named Langdon who joined a company of Cavalry at Warsaw Hancock County Illinois under the Impression that they were to join some Illinois Regiment but were by there officers turned over to the Missouri 7th they were all taken prisoners at Indipendence last fall and Parolled and these two young men with several others returned home and somehow got the Impression that they could not be required to Return but it seems an officer was lately sent to arrest them but they escaped and Young Kinsloe is now in Canada & Perhaps Langdon also. Called at my house to day and informed us that upon a piece of open ground within two miles of Shelbyville the home trattors and renegades meet daily for drill. and that there is allready betwen two and three thousand who meet there and their num- <hr /> bers are daily increseing. allso within a few miles of the Mr. Birks there lived a Union man who refused to join a party of these Traitors and take an oath against the union, he Telling them he was going to live and die a union man they made reply that he would not live long then. So soon after they rushed in rushed in his house at night and attacked him with knifes. his wife wife picked up the gun and shot one of the Traittorous murderers at that moment one of the rascels split her husband's head open they then killed her. The children (two or three) escaped. The above tragedy was gethered from from the oldest girl (who was 8 years old) but who could not tell who the <hr /> the murderers where. Mr. Burk tells me he heard a renegade from Missouri by name Morgan n. Woods and a sort of Camelite preach tell those Secesh at Shelbyville that they must go North in squads and each man press a gun. and upon there road back to press a horse a peace. and if they didnot know how to do it he could learn them as he had been engaged in bushwacking in Missouri for twelve months. As Mr. Burk said he did not know of any one who had sent you word cartain but supposed they had. I wanted my husband to send you word but he said he thought others had wrote. but I thought if any had sent you word their proceedings would have been stoped ere this.
