Dear Sir Having been a resident and payer of taxes for near thirty years in this State, and knowing our taxes are greatly increased by previous injudicious Legislation, I would therefore beg that you as Governor and as the peoples representative as such of the State of Illinois would recommend to our Legislature at its next sitting that our terms of court be shortened to two weeks and but three terms during one year and that the jury be paid by those disposed to litigate this county (Will) held its Dec term nine weeks, all the money in dispute would not pay the jury or half pay it, cheaper by far would it be to be taxed to pay all damages between parties than to hold court to settle common disputes between men who seek litigation <hr /> Why a jury kept one whole week on one little pig case – only six or seven cases tried during the term of nine weeks I understand.
