Yates, Dr Sir At the opening of the September term, under the promise that the State would supply the necessary Arms, Knox College employed Major Standaw, to give Military instruction in the College.-- And the College would gladly acknowledge its obligation to Gov Yates for his recommendation of the Major. We have a fine company of young men under drill -- the College making it the rule, that all the students shall engage in it. They have progressed as far as they can advantageously without the arms. Sometime since we sent an agent to Springfield for them, and he returned with the <hr /> assurance they would speedily follow. They have not come, - in every probability from a press of business. We understand there are both Austrian and English arms not in use, which would answer our wants. Horner was committed to cleaning up corruption in the Chicago-run Democratic Party machine. An expert on Abraham Lincoln, Horner was an avid collector of Lincoln artifacts and papers.
