Dear Governor
I am honoured with the receipt of your letter of 23d inst in reply to mine soliciting an appointment as Major of Col. Finchin's Regiment, and sincerely thank you for your Kind expression of a disposition to meet my views, so far as it may be in your power to do so. If in the Organization of new Regiments about to be called into service, your can give me a Field appointment I shall owe you a debt of Gratitude of no small magnitude.
