Your Excellency

Governor Yates

Sir. I wish to communicate to you through a friend and state to you the condition of my health. I have been two years laboring under the disease of the eye and my sight is almost extinct and I appeal to you as a friend to know if there is any possible way for me to be discharged from the service of the United States as I have been two years unable to do any duty.
