To His Excellency Gov. Yates

Sir

With this please find a "Palmetto Basket" manufactured by a Miss McCarroll of this place. I procured it intending to present it on your return as a Southron relic for the benefit of the "folks at home," but as we are now about to leave for parts unknown (perhaps Vicksburg) I am compelled to forward by Express.

Please accept the tiny article with my best wishes hoping that very soon the entire "Palmetto Country" may be as thoroughly worked up
