To his Excellency

Gov. Yates

Dear Gov.

I am at your service to aid in caring for our dead & wounded on the battlefields or their transportation to Hospitals or homes in Illinois - to serve in any way & where in the Great Cause now passing thro its most fearful yet hopeful baptism of blood. If no special exegency just now in that direction, I will comply with Ex. Gov. Woods wishes to aid him in raising his Regiment in Adams Co. & to this end hasten on to Quincy - where communication can reach me by mail or telegraph -
